Staging Styles
When decorating your home there are many different styles to choose from that should always reflect the homeowners taste and personality. This is the opposite when staging a house to sell; the house should reflect a very clean and neutral style that works well with the furniture the homeowner may have and the type of house they live in. You want to showcase the house for all its benefits without having the furniture and the decorating style dominate and dictate what the house should look like.
Here are some very simple and neutral decorating styles that work well when staging a house to sell:
Traditional:
Traditional style interiors are comforting and classic. It is calm, orderly, and predictable. There is nothing wild or chaotic in a traditional room. Furnishings are classic and pieces match. Furniture and accessories are placed in pairs and centered in the room. Traditional style homes feel comfortable for any age group.
Contemporary:
Contemporary interiors are comfortable and welcoming without being cluttered and dark. The use of texture and clean lines help define this decorating style. It allows you to showcase the space rather than the things inside it. Furniture pieces should be simple and uncluttered, without curves or decoration. In contemporary interiors, less is more.
Casual:
With casual decorating, the number one goal is to create a comfortable space that invites everyone to take off their shoes and stay a while. It reflects simple details, textured elements in fabrics and accessories, restful horizontal lines, soft upholstery, low-luster surfaces, and arrangements that avoid perfect symmetry.
Eclectic:
An Eclectic decorating style mixes elements from at least two of the other three decorating styles (traditional, contemporary, casual). It combines a variety of periods and styles and is brought together through the use of color, texture, shape and finish. It is a light-hearted style that is never boring. Eclectic style is casual and approachable.
Always remember that the house you have lived in for the past years is not your home once it’s up on the market. Therefore your personality and style must be as neutral and as simple as the homebuyers walking in and viewing it would like it. They are the ones that need to imagine their furniture and theirs styles in the house.
